Yes, Donations are optional.
No, I will never tell you to pay for anything.
My intention is to make all donations optional, and therefore no strings attached for all parties involved ("No Obligation Donation").
And unlike Patreon, or Youtube, or any other paid content service, I am one individual, that chooses freedom to operate within the boundaries of my decisions, rather than the expectations of paid supporters through a payment medium.
Because this is a purely free site and all of my game servers, and other services are free, I don't want any community under my care to think they can vote with their money to tell me what to do. Bad things happen when people want to do a good thing and start feeling like they have to get paid for it, or they have to feel pressure to please someone else. Why not just accept things for what they are and enjoy it as they are?
( "You think this is a democracy?" )
So no, all of your donations are just simply that: donations.
If you like what I do, want to support some of it with a donation, that's all it is and will be.
You'll never have to feel obligated to donate, and I'll never have to feel obligated to please everyone.
I can keep doing what I love doing for free, and you can enjoy what I do for free.
I do take Paypal or Venmo, but my personal favorite, preferred method of donation is Bitcoin. No... it's not because it's illegal or anonymous, or anything like that.
If one is inclined enough or has enough resources, they can track everything via public ledger.
It's because I love the technology and the future it represents... or is trying to avoid.
There's no middleman, no in-between.
Just an interaction between you and me.
I'm not really going to sit here and argue about other alternatives, but Bitcoin is the OG.
And to make life simple for the masses, we can just leave it at that.
Actually, yeah, there is. Nobody truly likes to give away their hard-earned money if they didn't have to.
I've been using HoneyGain and it basically let's me share some of my home Internet bandwidth (privately, anonymously) for companies, charity organizations, or research scientists to use.
In return, you get paid to share some of your Internet.
If you use the referral link below, I get a small bonus. Fair.
I pay for everything myself, out of pocket. I [am supposed to] have a full time job (or at least am doing okay for now, during COVID-19), and do well enough to make sure I have enough resources for all the hardware and software involved. Granted, electricity isn't free, and Internet isn't either. And hardware is expensive too. Donations help speed up the process or cover those things so that I can get to doing what I love: playing games and helping other people play games with me.
Just click any of the buttons above, or on one of the pages that you've visited. It should open up the respective medium on your computer or phone, and you can just send it "as a friend". For Bitcoin, I've included instructions.
I don't want either of us to feel awkward about commitments, obligations, or pressure to feel like we have to keep the site or services alive, or for me to feel like I must do something to please someone. If for any reason, I have to do something for a personal reason, I would definitely feel bad over it, but I want the freedom to operate without both restrictions and temptations. Shutting down the site would be a last resort option, as I think I am okay financially. If people want to donate to help maintain or cover a cost, that's exactly what donations are for. If it comes down to it, I could either wait for more donations, or pause operations until it's okay for me to resume again.
The intent and purpose of the donation is for anything related to the operation and maintenance of the site, Virtual Machine Host/Server, and possibly software. To be clear, everything basically runs on software, which runs on a computer. Said computer has hardware. The hardware can fail. The hardware might need an upgrade every now and then. Said computer also has that software that was mentioned. Software sometimes requires subscriptions to protect things or keep things running. Said software can also increase resource usage on said hardware that also draws more electricity and internet connection 24/7. So yeah, almost all donations will probably be kept to cover emergency repairs, or for upgrades.
But if you just want to send me a donation 'cus I'm a cool guy and you like what I do, thanks!
Internet. My Internet provider doesn't provide better upload speed unless I pay some extortion-level money. And they're the only provider in my area/complex/section, so I can't even switch to something that offers Fiber. It's a scam I tell you... I am seeking a place to park my server where there is better Internet and reasonable power cost. If there is anyone out there that I know personally and you are reading this, let me know!
